The current flag of Iran was adopted on 29 July 1980, and is a reflection of the changes brought about by the Iranian Revolution. Its field is a tricolour comprising equal horizontal bands of green, white, and red. A horizontal tricolour of green, white, and red charged with the emblem of Iran in red centred on the white stripe. The statement "الله اکبر" (lit. God is Great) is written in white square Kufic script a total of 22 times on the fringe of both the green and red bands.
