Amir Chakhmaq Complex

Amir Chakhmaq Complex

August 19, 2013 , IRAN , YAZD

The Amir Chakhmaq Complex is a prominent structure in Yazd, Iran, noted for its symmetrical sunken alcoves. The complex contains a mosque, cold water well, a bazaar (a marketplace in the Interior corridor of structure) and a tekyeh (main and most known building in complex). A tekyeh is a place where Shias gather to mourn the killing of Imam Hussein. Such places are particularly found in Iran. They are usually traditionally designed with observable elements of Persian architecture. The complex was built by Amir Jalaleddin Chakhmaq, governor of Yazd during the Timurid dynasty (15th-16th century CE).
